Current Position and Professional Functions
Sonia Meerai is a qualitative researcher at THETA Collaborative. She is currently in the Gender and Women Studies PhD program at York University and a member of the Canadian Association of Social Work Education.
Education and Training
Sonia holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, minor in Sociology from Ryerson University and Master's Degree in Social Work from York University. Prior to joining THETA, she worked on over 20 qualitative studies on topics such as caregivers caring for someone with Alzheimer’s and related dementia, last stages of life, mental health practices and racialized communities, social work practice, health and social care system processes, and women and gender community based research studies on income security and employment, post-shelter experiences in Southwestern Ontario, and ending gender-based violence on post-secondary campuses in Ontario. She continues to immerse herself in critically sound qualitative and mixed methods studies within Ontario.
Research Interests and Expertise
Sonia’s research interests are in the area of health equity and access, social determinants of health, women and gender issues and in particular, the design and processes of qualitative research methodologies.
