Clinical Research Manager


Current Position and Professional Functions

Jim is a Clinical Research Manager at THETA and an Assistant Professor (part-time) in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact (HE&I), Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, where he provides instruction within the Health Research Methodology graduate program.

At THETA he is working as a part of Dr. Valeria Rac’s program of research, supporting various research activities including the Diabetes Action Canada SPOR Network Health Technology Assessment and Network Analytics program, clinical trials, health economic evaluations, health technology assessments and related health system analyses.



Education and Training

Jim received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Master of Science, specializing in pharmacology, from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto. He is a licensed community pharmacist and trained in hospital pharmacy.

Research Interests and Expertise

His area of research expertise relates to the design, coordination and supervision of clinical trials and health technology assessments for new medical technologies entering into the Ontario healthcare system. His research interests include the development of methods related to the conduct of clinical trials to help inform health policy decisions and the evaluation of technologies within the health system. Prior to joining THETA, he has worked at PATH at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and McMaster University, within pharmaceutical industry and at various Ontario hospitals. He is a co-author of over 60 peer-reviewed publications and reports.
